October 2026 Product Recalls: Toyota, Hyundai, Honda, Contaminated Food & Dangerous Consumer Products

Seven October 2026 recalls New York consumers should know about, from Toyota and Hyundai vehicles to contaminated food, medication and baby products, and what to do if a recalled product causes an injury.

Recent Product Recalls Raise Serious Safety Concerns: What New York Consumers Need to Know

Dangerous and defective products can cause serious injuries, sometimes without warning. From vehicles that suddenly lose power on highways to contaminated food, defective medications and unsafe baby products, recent recalls highlight the importance of consumer safety.

In October 2026, federal safety regulators reported several significant product recalls affecting hundreds of thousands of products nationwide.

At Caesar, Napoli & Spivak PLLC, our New York personal injury attorneys believe consumers should stay informed about dangerous products and understand their legal rights when a defective product causes an injury.

Here are seven recent recalls consumers should know about.

1. Toyota Recalls Nearly 31,000 RAV4 SUVs Over Sudden Power Loss

Toyota is recalling approximately 30,978 model-year 2026 RAV4 plug-in hybrid SUVs because of a software defect that could cause vehicles to unexpectedly lose power while driving.

The defect may cause the hybrid system to shut down completely or enter a reduced-power mode, potentially leaving motorists stranded in moving traffic.

Toyota dealers will provide free software updates to correct the problem.

The danger: A vehicle that unexpectedly loses power on a highway can cause a serious collision. Drivers, passengers and other motorists may suffer catastrophic injuries when a defective vehicle becomes disabled in traffic.

Victims injured in accidents involving defective vehicles may have grounds for a product liability lawsuit against the manufacturer.

2. Hyundai and Genesis Recall Nearly 95,000 Vehicles Over Fire Risk

Hyundai and Genesis have recalled approximately 94,622 vehicles because defective power seat switches may overheat and cause fires, even when the vehicles are parked and turned off.

The affected vehicles include:

  • 2015–2016 Hyundai Genesis sedans
  • 2017–2020 Genesis G80 sedans

Owners have been instructed to park outside and away from buildings and other vehicles until repairs are completed.

The danger: Vehicle fires can cause severe burns, smoke inhalation injuries and extensive property damage. Automobile manufacturers may face liability when defective components cause injuries.

3. Nearly 45,000 Jars of Mezzetta Peperoncini Recalled Following Contamination Complaint

Mezzetta has recalled 44,982 jars of Golden Greek Peperoncini following a consumer report of an apparent dead mouse inside an unopened jar.

The affected products can be identified by:

  • UPC: 073214003280
  • Lot number: 720106
  • Best-by date: July 2029

The FDA classified the recall as Class II, meaning consumption could cause temporary or medically reversible health consequences, although the probability of serious health consequences is considered remote.

The cause of the apparent contamination has not been publicly established.

The danger: Contaminated food can cause foodborne illness and other health complications. Consumers who become ill after consuming a defective food product may have legal claims against responsible manufacturers or distributors.

4. Honda Recalls Vehicles Because Tire Repair Kits May Explode

Honda has recalled approximately 4,804 additional vehicles because defective tire repair kits may experience excessive pressure buildup, causing bottle caps to detach with significant force.

The recall affects certain 2023 to 2026 model year Honda Accord Hybrid and CR-V Hybrid vehicles, along with one 2025 CR-V fuel cell vehicle.

Honda previously reported eight injuries associated with the broader defect.

Owners should avoid using affected tire repair kits until the necessary repairs are completed.

The danger: Defective automotive accessories can cause eye injuries, facial trauma and other serious injuries, even when the vehicle itself is not involved in a collision.

5. Amazon Basic Care Acetaminophen Recalled Over Discolored Medication

More than 112,000 bottles of Amazon Basic Care Extra Strength Acetaminophen have been recalled after consumers reported discolored caplets.

The recall involves certain 500-milligram acetaminophen products sold in bottles containing 200, 500 and 1,000 caplets.

Consumers should check the affected lot numbers through the FDA’s recall database.

The danger: Consumers rely on pharmaceutical manufacturers to ensure medications are properly manufactured and safe for their intended use. Defective or contaminated medications can potentially cause serious health consequences.

6. Baby Bath Seats Recalled Because of Drowning Risk

Approximately 2,140 ONTHEWEI baby bath seats sold through Amazon have been recalled because they may tip over, creating a serious drowning hazard.

The recalled products, model MY002, reportedly violate mandatory federal safety standards for infant bath seats.

Parents and caregivers should immediately stop using these products and follow the manufacturer’s refund instructions.

The danger: Unsafe children’s products can cause devastating injuries or wrongful death. Manufacturers and sellers may be held responsible when defective products cause preventable harm.

7. Hatsan Air Rifles Recalled Over Unexpected Discharge Hazard

Approximately 16,170 Hatsan Blitz and Blitz 777 air rifles have been recalled because they may unexpectedly discharge under certain conditions.

Consumers should stop using the affected products and follow the manufacturer’s safety and repair instructions.

Unexpected discharge of a defective product can cause serious or fatal injuries.

What Should You Do If You Own a Recalled Product?

If you discover that a product you purchased has been recalled, take immediate precautions:

  • Stop using the product when directed by the recall notice.
  • Check the model, serial number or lot number to determine whether your product is affected.
  • Contact the manufacturer regarding free repairs, replacements or refunds.
  • Preserve evidence if an injury occurred, including the defective product when safe, packaging, photographs, receipts and medical records.
  • Consult a New York product liability attorney if you or a family member suffered injuries.

Consumers can check the latest recall information through the FDA, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Can You File a Product Liability Lawsuit in New York?

When a dangerous or defective product causes an injury, New York law may allow the injured consumer to seek compensation from responsible manufacturers, distributors or sellers.

Product liability claims generally involve three categories of defects:

  • Design defects: A product’s design makes it unreasonably dangerous.
  • Manufacturing defects: A product departs from its intended design because of an error during manufacturing or assembly.
  • Failure to warn: A manufacturer fails to provide adequate warnings or instructions about foreseeable dangers.

Depending on the circumstances, injured consumers may be entitled to recover compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages.

Importantly, a product does not have to be officially recalled for an injured consumer to pursue a product liability claim. Conversely, a recall does not automatically establish that a manufacturer is legally responsible for an injury.

An experienced New York product liability lawyer can investigate the circumstances, identify potentially responsible parties and determine whether a legal claim exists.

Frequently Asked Questions About Product Recalls and Injury Lawsuits

Can I sue if I was injured by a recalled product?

Yes, potentially. If a defective product caused your injury, you may have grounds for a product liability lawsuit. Whether compensation is available depends on the nature of the defect, causation and the circumstances of the injury.

Do I need a receipt to file a defective product lawsuit?

Not necessarily. A receipt can help establish where and when a product was purchased, but other evidence may establish ownership and product identification. Preserve the product, packaging, photographs and any available purchase records.

How long do I have to file a product liability lawsuit in New York?

In many New York personal injury product liability cases, the statute of limitations is three years, generally measured from the date of injury. However, exceptions and different deadlines may apply depending on the claim and parties involved. Prompt legal consultation is important to protect your rights.
